Best Way To Heal Anxiety And Panic Attacks: PanicAway.com

  1. Acceptance: Many panic attacks stem from trying to deny your true feelings.  As a result other feelings take over, such as anger and fear.  Instead of fighting your initial feelings before an attack begins, accept them.  If you are scared, realize that is what you are feeling and try to find out what is causing that feeling.  If you are upset or hurt, accept those feelings and again try to get to the root of those feelings.  This takes time and effort, but once we know what is causing our real feelings, we can stop overcompensating.
  2. Journaling: Have a notebook or pad of paper nearby.  When the initial feelings begin, write down what you are actually feeling.  Is it fear, is it anger, is it sadness?  Write it down.  Over time you will be able to see what prompts your attacks and when you are calm again you can explore the causes.  Often times seeing our feelings on paper can take away their power over us.
  3. Breathe: This sounds simple enough, but it isn’t!  When we become anxious our breathing becomes shallow and quick.  Try to pay attention to your breathing, focus on it.  Physically try and slow it down, taking deeper and slower breaths.  This requires concentration, which will help to draw your focus away from the panic and stress.  Breathing deeply and slowly will also calm your internal systems helping you to gain control again.
  4. Exercise: When we exercise our bodies use the adrenalin that is released during a panic attack.  A brisk walk or floor exercises at home 30 minutes each day will effectively use up the adrenalin leaving none left for your panic attacks.  Exercise also releases endorphins which make us feel better naturally.

If you want to stop anxiety attacks you need to commit yourself to doing things that will redirect your focus and calm your body and mind.  This does require effort and repetition over time.  You didn’t get anxiety attacks overnight, realize that they won’t vanish overnight either.  Consistent use of the above mentioned techniques will help you to take back control of your thoughts, feelings and your life.
